We arrived safely in Sao Paulo on Sunday morning. After meeting Miguel, Takuo and our old friend Giovanni at the airport, we were off to the home of Takuo where his wife had prepared a delicious meal. Our respective host families met us there, and we all split up.
Everyone was tired from a long journey, but we all took advantage of our first full day in Campinas. Our host parents filled us with more food ( and in some cases a beverage or two).
so much to see and so much to do..
On Monday we all met at a central meeting place, and our team was once again united. We all shared our individual experiences from the night before, and we discovered that our individual host families were a perfect match for us.
Our first vocational day was at UNICAMP , which is the University of Campinas. It is a sprawling complex with specialized training in a variety of pursuits, much as a typical American university.
We all were especially interested in the Architecture department, which is using Algorithmic codes to generate shapes and models. This University is public, which means that the students do not pay a tuition, however it is difficult to be accepted. Because the vast majority of the Brazilian population live in Sao Paulo and the surrounding areas, UNICAMP teaches and employs the best of the best.
Monday evening we attended our first Rotary meeting ; Campinas Sul ( southern Campinas).
We all did well with our Portuguese presentations and were presented with gifts from the local club. The generosity and hospitality of the Brazilian people is amazing. During the Rotary meeting, one of the speakers indicated that their purpose was to ensure that when we leave, our hearts will bleed yellow and green. I am thinking that may not be hard to accomplish.
